Give The Gift Of Literacy

The Gift That Lasts A Lifetime

So many people take reading for granted. But not you.

Imagine the despair a young child feels when watching other children in school read out loud and knowing he may be called on next. Or the frustration and anger of being left behind in school and life because the letters and words don’t make sense, no matter how hard you try.

We understand the unfair burden illiteracy places on innocent children, and we are committed to helping struggling readers across the country. You can help us make strides to end our nation’s literacy crisis.

Your gift will make a difference:

  • By helping a child learn to read, you give them the tools to learn, explore, and navigate life.
  • By helping a school district, you can vastly improve the community, ensuring that more children graduate from high school and go on to higher education.
  • By supporting HILL’s infrastructure, you can help turn around our nation’s schools. Young students of today will be our future engineers, teachers, scientists, writers, health professionals, and diplomats.

Ways to Give

Cash Gifts

Cash gifts — the simplest and easiest gifts you can make — can be made through credit/debit card transactions, outright cash, or personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders made payable to: Hill for Literacy, Inc.

Giving online is now even easier! Simply click the Donate Now button to the left to make a donation through PayPal or give through the Boston Foundation’s Giving Common.

Matching Gift Programs

An easy way to double or even triple your donation to HILL is to find out if your company has a matching gift program. Such programs typically match all or a percentage of employee contributions to charitable organizations, making the employer a partner in employees’ personal philanthropy. Simply obtain a matching gift form from your employer’s human resources office or company website, fill it out, and provide it to HILL with your contribution.

Pledges

The HILL welcomes your gift through a pledge — a formal statement of intention to make a gift to the HILL. With a pledge, you may complete your gift by making regular payments over time, allowing you to give more generously than you originally may have considered.

Connecticut K-3 Literacy Initiative (CK3LI)

HILL for Literacy is a partner in the Connecticut K-3 Literacy Initiative (CK3LI) funded through legislation developed by General Assembly’s Black and Puerto Rican Caucus to train teachers and administrators in the best research-based literacy practices and address the state’s achievement gap – one of the worst in the country – from the earliest grades. We participated in the pilot study and in SY 14-15 we brought our literacy leadership training to many districts across the state. The initiative began in 2012 and participating schools are already seeing tremendous growth in their scores.
