A Close Reading lesson can occur in one larger chunk of time, or in several distributed sessions over a longer period of time. The main question we should ask ourselves while planning is: How long will/can my students be engaged in this process? The main issue to take into account is the amount of thinking and “work” this will be for the students. If students are disengaged, then the close reading session is too long.
