For participants in the Connecticut Literacy Leadership Training Series. The CK3LI coaches meetings in SY18-19 will be focused on the evidence-based writing model: Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) developed by Dr. Karen Harris at Arizona State University. Participants will learn to use methods that have been extensively validated as effective in teaching struggling writers, such as formative assessment, rubrics, modeling, goal setting and graphic organizers. For participants in the Connecticut Literacy Leadership Training Series. Each school will designate a team of 6 school leaders from their school leadership team to participate in regular literacy leadership trainings. The team of 6 should represent the following departments/groups: principal, literacy facilitator/coach, one regular education teacher from grades K-3, one Special Education teacher, one ELL teacher (if applies), district level curriculum or literacy coordinator. Each school can send the same team as last year or designate new members if deemed appropriate.

The morning and afternoon training sessions will be presented by key leaders in the Connecticut K-3 Literacy Initiative. Learn the strategies used by schools in the Connecticut K-3 Literacy Initiative that have more than doubled the number of students meeting grade level literacy goals and more than halved the number of students at significant risk for reading failure.
