SUMMARY:Speaker Series: Rome Wasn't Built on a Scope & Sequence
DESCRIPTION:Rome was built on principles of load\, material\, structure\, and what it takes for something to last. The science of reading provides better blueprints for literacy instruction. It helps inform what to teach and motivated higher quality instructional materials. But blueprints don’t build themselves\, and what’s missing from the conversation is how we structure learners’ time\, attention\, and effort in pursuit of learning. In this webinar\, we’ll examine how learning science grounds effective literacy instruction\, why it makes everything else hold together\, and why the same activity can support skill development at one phase and quietly undermine it at another. Rome knew something about building things that last. It’s time to bring that sensibility to how we build literacy instruction.

SUMMARY:Adolescent Literacy Professional Learning Series
DESCRIPTION:The Adolescent Literacy Professional Learning Series translates findings of research in adolescent literacy to increase teacher knowledge and provide teachers with practices that can be immediately used in their daily content area classrooms in grades 6-12. Teachers will better understand the needs of adolescent learners in relation to literacy and how to support access to the core curriculum and complex text through a focus on disciplinary literacy. \nThis series for consists of ten 2.5-hour facilitated\, synchronous modules held via Zoom and continued learning through asynchronous materials and follow up activities. These modules address questions such as: \n\nWhat happens in the brain when we read? How can this understanding inform our instruction?\nWhat are basic\, intermediate\, and disciplinary literacy? How do these levels impact reading grade level content material?\nHow do we plan differentiated instruction to allow all students to access complex text?\nHow do we analyze instruction to determine the presence of features of effective instruction?\nWhat is the importance of vocabulary acquisition? What impact does it have on comprehension?\nWhat role does strategy instruction play? How do high-leverage instructional routines support constructing meaning from text?\n. . . and much more!\n\n  \nCompletion Requirement: Satisfactory completion is defined as attendance at no less than 20 out of 25 hours of scheduled\, synchronous course time\, and completion of all course assignments by September 30\, 2025. Each training session will be recorded and posted in the course in case of any absences or need for a refresher\, but is not considered an acceptable substitute for attendance. We strongly recommend reviewing the live session dates below before registering.  \nDates & Topics\nRegistration is for the entire series.
